Denmark, ca. 1950s. A large and incredibly well made Model FD 540 dining table by Finn Juhl for manufacturer France & Son. Unlike many Scandinavian modern tables, which typically have veneer tops, this piece features solid teak construction with a sculptural apron and tapered legs. A handsomely integrated design - the lower edges to the tabletop function as grips when drawing the table open. Comfortably seats 6 to 8 dining companions - but can easily accommodate 12 or 14 with the addition of two 20” self-storing leaves. Professionally refinished, the condition is excellent with a rich, warm color to the wood.
A scarce and elegant form with subtle Japanese influence - as seen in many of Juhl’s furniture designs.
Dimensions: 72” long x 39.25” wide x 28.25” high; each leaf measures 20” for a total possible length of 112”.
