Denmark, ca. 1950s. A seldom seen Model JH-539 occasional stool or ottoman by Hans Wegner - produced by cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen. Features a sculptural solid teak frame with flared shape, tapered handles, and wedged-through tenons. Intricately woven caned surface is in overall excellent original condition - as is the wood. While designed to accompany Wegner’s famous Papa Bear Chair, this piece is fully capable of standing on its own.
An expressive and beautifully made example of Wegner’s unique approach to design - and a most pleasing combination of materials.
