Sam Maloof Style Rocking Chair

Sam Maloof Style Rocking Chair
USA, ca. 2000s. A stunning and sculptural rocking chair after American woodworker and studio furniture maker Sam Maloof (1916-2009). Features incredible fiddleback maple construction with sweeping lines that cradle the body beautifully.
Maloof did not employ a specific formula when making his rockers, and instead allowed the density of each part to dictate the design. In 1983, Fine Woodworking featured an article by Maloof in which he described his singular and somewhat atypical approach. As a result, ambitious woodworkers began to tackle this difficult form as a way to demonstrate mastery of the craft, which is precisely what we have here.
While we have not been able to find the Tim MacDonald who made this specific rocker, he knocked it out of the park. It is unquestionably a statement piece of the highest build quality. Excellent condition with lovely soft luster to wood surface. And about one fifth the price of a signed Maloof!
Dimensions: 26” wide x 44” deep x 48” high; 19.5” seat height.
