Italy, ca. 1960s. A rare and early Model 925 lounge chair by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina. Features original black leather upholstery and incredibly scarce rosewood frame.
Tobia Scarpa is the son of the noted Italian architect - and national treasure - Carlo Scarpa, who contributed significantly to the advancement of modern architecture and industrial design. With his wife, Afra, he continued his father’s sophisticated and innovative work.
A comfortable and low lounge or occasional chair, the 925 was inspired by a sketch of Carlo Scarpa’s dating back to 1943. Inspired by combining the softness of “petals” with the sturdiness of a cube, the form is as visually striking as it is comfortable.
Lightly refurbished, the condition is excellent with appealing honest patina to leather surface. Original Cassina label to underside.
