Italy, ca. 1960s. A rare and early Model 925 lounge chair by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina. Features original black leather upholstery and seldom seen rosewood frame variant.
Accomplished in his own right, Tobia Scarpa is the son of the noted Italian architect (and national treasure) Carlo Scarpa, who contributed significantly to the advancement of modern architecture and industrial design. With his wife, Afra, Tobia continued his father’s sophisticated and innovative work.
A low lounge or occasional chair, the 925 was inspired by a sketch of Carlo Scarpa’s dating back to 1943. Inspired by combining the softness of “petals” with the sturdiness of a cube, the form is as visually striking as it is comfortable.
Lightly refurbished, the condition is excellent - with appealing and honest patina to leather surface. Original Cassina label to underside. A collectible bit of functional sculpture that is easily appreciated from all angles.
