USA, ca. 1990s. A fantastic set of three “Tree Trunk” candlesticks by Chinese-American artist Robert Kuo (b. 1946). Each is constructed of hand-hammered copper finished in a burnished silver-plating. Refined and nicely proportioned–the trio would be perfect for the dining table, mantel or as a thoughtful gift. Etched maker’s mark to underside of each. All in excellent vintage condition with pleasing surface patina.

Born in Beijing to a long lineage of metalworkers, Kuo moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s to establish his first workshop and design showroom. His studio is internationally known for its masterful use of cloissoné and repoussé - in addition to Kuo’s distinctive decorative metal forms, often combining motifs from the Han and Ming Dynasties with Art Nouveau influences. Kuo's work can be found in both private and public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, The Smithsonian Sackler Gallery, and The National History Museum of Taipei.
