USA, ca. 1900. A lovely antique handwoven basket from the Makah community of the Pacific Northwest. Features finely executed bear grass and cedar bark construction with traditional tribal motifs. This example is rather uncommon due to the eagle figures on each side - and its slightly larger than average size. The smaller red birds and sunburst to the lid add further visual interest. Sturdy and in overall beautiful antique condition with a warm, honeyed patina.
