USA, ca. 1940s or 1950s. A fabulous and monumental pair of modernist andirons occasionally attributed to the American industrial designer Donald Deskey (1894-1989). Each features sturdy iron construction with wide, flat bar bodies supported by thick, flared legs. Dramatic bronze elements very much bring to mind the horns of a bull. Sculptural and masculine with great presence. Lightly refurbished and in overall very good antique condition - with appropriate signs of wear and use.
