Roy Sheldon Black Cherry Side Table

Roy Sheldon Black Cherry Side Table

$1,975.00

USA, ca. 1950s. A delightful black cherry accent table by Vermont artist and furniture maker Roy Sheldon. Features a wonderful live edge top supported by splayed conical legs. Dramatic graining and contrasting heartwood to the top bears a strong resemblance to a seal–according to Sheldon, it is “The Seal”. Titled as such on the underside along with inscribed signature, label and dedication. While we’re unsure if the piece was commissioned or personally gifted, there’s no doubt it was made in honor of “Boocher & Marrow’s Third Anniversary”... September 1, 1956 apparently the special day that Mar and The Booch first Sealed the deal.

Sheldon would source the tops for his tables from “forest trees” found on his extensive property–and would then sell them from his front yard. An excellent example from the studio craft movement with a pleasing organic shape. Professionally refinished to reveal its original beauty, the condition is excellent.

Dimensions: 34.5” long x 12.5” deep x 16.5” high.
