Iran, ca. early 20th century. A fabulous coffee table featuring a large oval tinned copper tray supported by a sculptural teak base. Heavy scalloped tray is beautifully and densely incised with scenes of courtly life interspersed with inscriptions, animals, and floral decoration. Modernist wood base is sturdy - yet collapsable for easy movement - and offers an attractive contrast to the ornate Qajar metalwork. Would be lovely in a living room, sunroom, or on a three-season porch, etc. Overall excellent vintage condition with pleasing patina and soulful handmade feel.
