England, ca. 1740s. A solid and spacious blanket chest in the George II style. Features pegged quarter-sawn oak construction with paneled front supported by thick rectangular feet. Top opens to reveal plenty of room for stashing linens, games, dog toys - or pretty much anything. Would be great in a foyer or mudroom for concealing shoes, at the foot of a bed, or even behind a sofa as a low console. Freshly waxed to enhance patina, the condition is overall excellent with appealing and honest signs of age.
Wonderfully simple, endlessly useful, and quite heavy!
