England, ca. early 19th century. A fine pair of antique Regency mahogany hall chairs after the style of Gillows. Expertly crafted from solid mahogany with a rich, dark patina. Features a distinctive, shield-shaped back with elaborate scroll and foliate carvings in relief–centered on a heraldic Tudor Rose. Simple, solid plank seats are supported by turned front legs and splayed rear legs. A very attractive pair and a fantastic example of late-neoclassical motifs and form. Perfect for their traditional, intended use–placed in the foyer or an entrance hallway for guests to await their host.
Professionally refurbished to ensure stability. In overall excellent antique condition, with age-appropriate wear and honest patina.
