Einar Barnes Teak Wastepaper Basket

Einar Barnes Teak Wastepaper Basket
Norway, ca. 1960s. A scarce wastepaper basket by Einar Barnes - manufactured by PS Heggen. Features beautifully executed teak construction with sweeping lines and attractive graining. Pierced handles bring to mind an antique milk pail or water bucket - while the sculptural shape is thoroughly modern. A lovely addition to any office, library, or den. Professionally refurbished, the condition is excellent.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Einar Barnes worked as a missionary in Manchuria, China - where he was involved with construction and building projects. He then made his way to Ethiopia and ultimately back to Norway - where he became the manager of the Aase Dreieri furniture factory. Self taught, Barnes contracted with PS Heggen in the 1960s to produce his distinctive wastepaper baskets, which have become a collectible, and quietly functional, example of Norwegian design.
Dimensions: 15” wide x 8.75” deep x 17.25” high.
