Kurt Versen Machine Age Floor Lamp

Kurt Versen Machine Age Floor Lamp
USA, ca. 1930s. An early modernist floor lamp by Kurt Versen (1901-1997) for his company Kurt Versen, Inc. Features a spun aluminum shade that conceals two sockets supported by a weighted brass base. Clever flip-top design allows it to function as either a torchiere or reading lamp depending on position. A handsome form that is both Machine Age and Art Deco in its styling, it is one of the best examples we have seen with perfect patina. Professionally rewired and in excellent working order.
Born in Sweden, Versen immigrated to the United States in 1930 after studying in Germany. Well known for his lighting designs, his work was shown ash both the 1933/34 Chicago World’s Fair and the 1939/40 New York World’s Fair. Besides a variety of lamps he created for his own company, he also designed for Lightolier in the 1930s.
Dimensions: 17” wide x 17” deep x 62” high (torchiere); 17” wide x 21.5” deep x 56.5” high (reading lamp).
