Marc Chagall Metropolitan Opera Poster

Marc Chagall Metropolitan Opera Poster
France, ca. 1967. An original offset lithographic poster by Marc Chagall (b.1887-1985) for The Metropolitan Opera’s 1967 production of Mozart's “The Magic Flute”. Printed at the renowned Atelier Mourlot in Paris, by master printmaker and Chagall’s close collaborator, Charles Sorlier.
Professionally fitted with a new white lacquered wood frame, archival matting, and conservation glass. The print itself is in excellent vintage condition.
As part of the Metropolitan Opera’s 1966 reopening at The Lincoln Center, Chagall was commissioned to design both set and costume for the inaugural 1967 production of The Magic Flute (Die-Zauberflote). Chagall’s poster design references concepts in the now iconic, monumental murals hanging in the lobby of the Met Opera, painted as part of the same commission, debuted in 1966.
Dimensions: 31” wide x 45” high x 1” deep.
