USA, ca. 1950s. A handsome highboy or gentleman’s chest by artist and furniture maker Richard Artschwager (1923-2013). Features bench-made walnut construction with a large upper cabinet that opens to reveal a central bank of pull-out trays (originally intended for laundered and pressed dress shirts) flanked by adjustable shelves. Six graduated drawers are each finished with a minimalist angled pull. An attractive and supremely useful design that offers generous storage in a compact footprint - perfect for city living.
Professionally refinished with a rich luster and graining to the wood - the condition is excellent.
Best known for his sculptures, Richard Artschwager’s artwork embraced Pop, Minimalist, and Conceptual movements.
