Antique New England Grain Painted Blanket Chest

Antique New England Grain Painted Blanket Chest

$3,400.00

USA, ca. 1820s. A charming high blanket chest found - and most likely made - in Maine. Features pine constriction with a top supported by hand forged iron hardware that opens to reveal generous storage space. Two lower drawers with simple turned pulls are perfect for folded linens, clothing, etc. Original grain painting is as interesting as it is abstract. We especially love the traces of perhaps the makers initials and a possible date to the reverse.

While originally designed for keeping valuable textiles safe and off the floor - these chests work well in foyers or mudrooms to corral boots, shoes, school / work bags, etc. The finish was intended to emulate a more sophisticated piece of Empire furniture - as indicated by the boot jack sides and scrolled base.

Freshly cleaned and waxed with a sensitive hand. Overall excellent antique condition with an honest and appealing patina.

Dimensions: 38” wide x 18” deep x 38” high.
