Finland, ca. 1960s. A nice older pair of Model 45 armchairs by Alvar Aalto for Artek. Each features sturdy bent birch frame with seat and back upholstered in a neutral ivory linen webbing. Flared armrests are wrapped with woven rattan, which adds a subtle and elegant finishing touch.
Originally designed in 1947, the Model 45 was a personal favorite of Aalto, so much so he used the design in his own architectural office. Comfortable with a versatile scale, these would make great end chairs at a dining table, serve as desk chairs, or even do well as occasional lounge seating in a living room.
Lightly refurbished with an honest patina, the condition is excellent.
