Alvar Aalto Model 402 Lounge Chair

Alvar Aalto Model 402 Lounge Chair
Finland, ca. 1930s or 1940s. An early Model 402 lounge chair by Alvar Aalto manufactured by Artek. Features a sturdy cantilevered birch frame with a comfortable upholstered body freshly covered in a lively green wool from Maharam. A versatile example of Aalto’s practical - yet pleasing - approach to design.
The Model 402 or “Atelje” chair was first presented by Aalto at the Milan Triennale of 1933. Since then, it has become a classic of modernist design - easily recognizable for its quirky yet compelling silhouette. Perfectly pitched, it makes for a great reading chair. Professionally refurbished, the condition is excellent with a mellow patina to the wood surface.
Dimensions: 24” wide x 27.5” deep x 30” high; 17” seat height.
