USA, ca. 1970s. A beautifully executed vessel by Massachusetts woodturner Ron Pessolano (1947-2017). Features solid cherry construction with an elegant ovoid shape. Softly burnished surface provides a pleasing and intriguing contrast to open sections created by irregularities in the burl. Lovely as an object or vase for dried arrangements. Excellent vintage condition with signature to underside.
Featured in Fine Woodworking Magazine, Pessolano created his impressive vessels using a 19th century lathe and hand tools. Very much in the style of Ed and Philip Moulthrop - with a masterful use of positive / negative space.
