Peter Collingwood Handwoven Tapestry

Peter Collingwood Handwoven Tapestry
England, ca. 1970s. A fantastic hand woven tapestry by English artist and weaver Peter Collingwood (1922-2008). Titled "SS37" and woven in Nayland, England in 1977. Features a meticulously crafted geometric pattern in red and orange dyed wool with plaited tassels. The alternating analogous color creates an attractive and mesmerizing illusion of dimensional depth and movement. In excellent vintage condition, this would make a stunning focal point to any room.
Collingwood built his own looms and pioneered new techniques in weaving. He was a founding fellow at the Digswell Arts Trust, soon after securing several international commissions for large-scale works. He went on to author several influential books on weaving and exhibited widely at galleries and museums, including a landmark show at the Victoria and Albert Museum with potter Hans Coper in 1969.
