Tomio Kinoshita Woodblock Print

Tomio Kinoshita Woodblock Print

$1,400.00

Japan, ca. 1960s. A striking woodblock print titled “You and I” or “Two Faces” by Tomio Kinoshita (1923-2014). Features abstracted figural composition in black and white. Intricately rendered, the technical execution of Kinoshita’s tight line work is most impressive. Freshly professionally framed with archival materials and UV glass, the condition is excellent. Signed and numbered in a pencil. A copy of the same print is in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum.

Born in Tokyo, Kinoshita initially studied architecture but moved towards painting and printmaking after World War II. As a member of the sōsaku-hanga (creative prints) movement, he performed every stage of the printmaking process. From design, to carving, to printing, which had traditionally been reserved for different craftsmen, the movement stressed the artist as sole creator - enhancing the personal and expressive qualities of the work.

Dimensions: 25” wide x 19.5” high x .75” deep.
